Early Carreer Research Prize in Vaccinology

Once again this year, the IUIS, together with Vaccines Europe will collect applications from members of IUIS, EFIS or any other European Immunology and/or Vaccinology Society and select a winner among them.

The aim is to promote and foster a younger generation of scientists in the early stages of their career in Europe.

Our objective: promote and foster a younger generation of scientists in the early stages of their career!

 

The scope of the prize relates is to reward significant achievements in Vaccine R&D, including the discovery of new vaccine antigens, new vaccines design, understanding the basics of the immune response, new technologies that will improve the future of vaccines and vaccination and that are supported by proof-of-concept data (preclinical and clinical).

Who can apply?

The Prize should focus on associate professors or senior postdoctoral fellows (e.g. those who have worked some years in the field of vaccinology and have already established their own working group/lab).

 

Criteria for application

-applicants must be members of IUIS, EFIS or any European Immunology/Vaccinology Society-

5-page application max, in pdf format

  • 1 paragraph summary of the research topic that also states the goal of the research
  • A short resumé of the last 5 years
  • A selection of the 10 most important publications of the last 5 years
  • Denote what the most important findings have been!
  • CV and memberships (not included in the 5 page expose)

 

Process of application and selection

  • Application must be sent to the IUIS Secretariat: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • IUIS will distribute the applications to the IUIS Vaccine Application Committee (VAC) to verify application quality and applicant status and ensure alignment with the established award rules
  • A jury composed of 2 to 3 members of IUIS (President, Member of the Executive Committee, Chair/Member of VAC) and 1 or 2 members of the VAC will select the winner amongst the applications received. One representative from Vaccines Europe will join the Jury as an observer
  • Announcement of the winner by the IUIS

Process of Prize Award

  • Winners will receive the accompanying monetary award in the year of selection, e.g. the first Prize by the end of 2017 and the second Prize by the end of 2018
  • The IUIS President accompanied by the VAC Chairperson and a VE Representative will present Prize certificates to the winners of the 2 Prizes during an Award Ceremony organized during Joint Symposium with the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS): Trends in Vaccinology, Monday, 3rd September, 2018; 13:15-14:30  in Amsterdam (https://www.eci2018.org/program/joint-symposia/)

  • During the Award Ceremony, the winner will present his/her research topics in form of a short lecture (15-20 minutes) at the end of the IUIS vaccinology session.

 

Winner's additional benefits

  • Legitimate expenses (only travel, accommodation and meals)  to all the winners to attend the award ceremony will be offered*. No speaker's fees and allowances will be paid.

*refund: accommodation in the  maximum 4* hotel and economic class of train/plane tickets

Congratulations to Tineke Cantaert!

We have a winner!

The IUIS, together with Vaccines Europe is pleased to announce the 2017 winner of the Early Career Research Prize in Vaccinology R&D. The winner has been identified by a jury of 7 members of the IUIS Vaccine Committee among the excellent applications received from 6 different European countries. According to the standardized scoring system followed, the highest scores were given to Tineke Cantaert, PhD (Belgian), currently working at the Institut Pateur du Cambodge.

The IUIS President accompanied by the VAC Chairperson and a VE Representative will present Prize certificates to the winners of the 2017 and 2018 Prizes during an Award Ceremony organized within the broad program of the IUIS European meeting (European Congress of Immunology - ECI 2018) scheduled in September 2018. During the Award Ceremony, the winners are invited to present their research topics in form of a short lecture (15-20 minutes) at the end of the IUIS vaccinology session.
